The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against any form of partiality or bias towards the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. The warning was given in separate interviews with THISDAYLIVE and Vanguard News on October 8 and 7, respectively.
According to THISDAYLIVE, the ADC urged INEC to decentralize the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and to ensure a level playing field for all political parties. The party also accused the presidential candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, of neglecting farmers and allowing agriculture to collapse.
In a similar vein, Vanguard News reported that the ADC told INEC to serve Nigeria, not the APC, in the upcoming elections. The party made this statement amidst growing concerns about the impartiality of the electoral body.
It is unclear whether the ADC has provided any evidence of bias by INEC towards the APC. The electoral commission has not commented on these allegations.
The ADC’s call for a level playing field and an end to perceived partiality is particularly relevant given the importance of the 2027 elections for Nigeria’s political landscape. The elections will determine the leadership of the country for the next four years and will have far-reaching consequences for Nigeria’s future.
