According to reports from Daily Post Nigeria and Vanguard News, the Enugu State Government has raised concerns about a suspected plot by some opposition elements to import armed thugs and bandits into the state. The allegation comes amidst heightened political tension as the country gears up for the 2027 general elections.
The government did not specify which opposition party or parties it accused of this plot. However, it linked the crisis at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the party’s state secretariat to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.
The Enugu State Government denied any involvement in the incidents at the airport and the party’s secretariat. It further stated that the incumbent Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has performed more than enough to secure a free and fair election victory in 2027.
This development underscores the increasing political tensions in Enugu State and Nigeria as a whole, as the 2027 elections approach. It also highlights the need for peaceful, credible, and fair elections to maintain stability and democracy in the country.
