NDC Disavows Pro-Obi Campaign Council, Warns Political Candidates

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), one of the country’s major opposition parties, has disassociated itself from a pro-Peter Obi campaign council set up by the OK Movement. According to Premium Times Nigeria, the party issued a statement cautioning political candidates against associating with the group. The NDC asserted that it did not authorize or endorse the formation of the Peter Obi Campaign Council (PCC) and advised the public to disregard any communications emanating from the council.

The OK Movement, led by Atedo Peterside, has been pushing for a coalition of political parties to support former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as a consensus presidential candidate in the 2027 elections. However, it appears that not all parties are on board with this initiative.

While the NDC has made its stance clear, it remains unclear how other political parties and the OK Movement will respond to this development. This disavowal by the NDC could impact the momentum of the pro-Obi campaign council, potentially shifting the dynamics of the coalition talks.

The 2027 general elections are expected to be a closely contested race, with several political heavyweights vying for the presidency. As the political landscape continues to evolve, Nigerians will watch keenly to see how parties and candidates align themselves ahead of the crucial polls.
