APC Challenges Atiku to Clarify Legal Basis of Fuel Subsidy Proposal

In a recent development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns about the proposed production subsidy for locally refined petrol by its presidential candidate’s rival, Atiku Abubakar. According to the APC, the plan lacks a clear legal framework and may not effectively reduce fuel prices for Nigerians. The party has called on Atiku to disclose the proposed subsidy rate, annual spending ceiling, volume of crude oil or petrol to be covered, funding source, and measures to prevent diversion, smuggling, and fraudulent claims. This comes as a response to Atiku’s pledge to implement a production subsidy should he win the upcoming elections. The APC’s concerns stem from a lack of clarity regarding the plan’s implementation and potential impact on the country’s economy. As the political race heats up, it remains crucial for all candidates to address the public’s concerns about their proposed policies.
