In an effort to enhance access to electricity for Nigerians, particularly those living off-grid, the Federal Government, through the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), has unveiled a $300 million fund aimed at expanding renewable energy projects across the country. According to Punch Newspapers, this initiative, which is part of the Nigerian Electricity Transmission Project (NETP), will focus on solar power projects in rural communities and small businesses. The NSIA has partnered with international investors to drive this project forward. This development comes after the launch of the Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP) in 2020, which identified energy as a key driver for economic growth and job creation. By investing in renewable energy projects, the Nigerian government aims to create jobs, reduce carbon emissions, and improve the standard of living for millions of Nigerians who currently lack access to reliable electricity.
