The Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), in partnership with Africa50 and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), has officially launched a commercial fund worth $300 million to boost off-grid electricity access in Nigeria. This comes as a significant step towards addressing the country’s energy deficit, particularly in remote areas where grid connectivity remains a challenge.
According to multiple reports from The Guardian Nigeria News, TheCable, Punch Newspapers, Business News Nigeria, The Nation Newspaper, and Vanguard News, this initiative is expected to catalyze private sector investment in renewable energy projects, thereby creating jobs, improving livelihoods, and driving economic growth.
Speaking on the development, NSIA’s Managing Director, Uche Orji, emphasized the need for innovative solutions to Nigeria’s energy challenges. He highlighted that this fund would play a crucial role in unlocking the potential of Nigeria’s untapped energy market.
This initiative is part of Nigeria’s broader commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7), which aims to ensure universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all by 2030.
