In a series of interviews on different media platforms this week, Wike reiterated his claim that the G-5 governors deliberately allowed Obi to win in parts of the South-South during the 2023 presidential election. According to Daily Post Nigeria, the Minister stated that all his children supported Obi during the election. Premium Times Nigeria also reported that Wike questioned why Obi’s supporters did not establish their claim during the legal process challenging the 2023 presidential election. Tribune Online added that the G-5 governors allowed Obi to win in Rivers as part of a strategy to weaken the chances of the then Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar. However, it is worth noting that these reports do not provide any evidence of election result sheets or other proof to support Wike’s claim. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not released details of the 2023 presidential election results for Rivers State.
