The cost of petrol at Nigerian depots has fallen, potentially leading to reduced pump prices. On Tuesday, petrol prices dropped by as much as N24 per litre in major markets in Lagos, according to Udeme Akpan, Energy Editor for Vanguard News. This decline comes amid a broader reduction in international crude oil prices. Other markets saw smaller reductions, but the overall trend suggests filling stations may soon follow suit by lowering pump prices as they restock their fuel supplies.
While this development is welcome news to Nigerian motorists, it’s essential to consider that the state of the economy and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) remain factors in determining when, and by how much, filling stations may reduce pump prices. NNPC has not said when the facility began operating at these lower rates, nor whether it plans to pass on the savings to consumers.
Vanguard News reports that diesel prices also saw a slight drop but have yet to trigger a similar response from filling stations.
