On Thursday, September 24th, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar visited Minna, the capital of Niger State, where he paid a condolence visit to the Emir of Minna and donated N20 million to the families of 37 artisanal miners who died in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)
According to reports from multiple sources, Atiku was moved by the account given by one of the survivors about the conditions under which the detainees were held. The donation comes as part of Atiku’s wider campaign promises to lower the cost of living for Nigerians if elected President.
The Niger State chapter of the ADC, where Atiku is running as the presidential candidate, welcomed the gesture and expressed gratitude towards the former Vice President.
