In a bold move, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to apologise to Nigerians for the economic hardships they are experiencing under his administration. According to reports in Daily Post Nigeria, Atiku asserted that Nigerians can no longer afford basic necessities like food and transport fares due to the rising cost of living.
‘Nigerians cannot feed their children with government revenue announcements, while workers cannot afford transport fares,’ Atiku said in a statement. The ADC candidate also criticised Tinubu’s economic policies as a failure.
While the Nigerian President has not yet responded to Atiku’s challenge, this call for accountability comes at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with high inflation and unemployment rates. The rising debt burden of the country has also been a subject of concern for several months.
According to a report by Peoples Gazette Nigeria, Nigeria’s debt has increased by N116.94 trillion under President Tinubu’s administration. However, the Nigerian government has not released any official statement regarding when the facility began operating or the reasons for the increase in debt.
