Rivers Labour Party Distances Itself from Rainbow Coalition: Ex-Zonal Chairman, Favour Reuben

In a recent development, a former Labour Party (LP) zonal chairman in Rivers State, Favour Reuben, has distanced the party from the Rainbow Coalition. According to Punch Newspapers, Reuben claimed that the structure of the LP in Rivers State was not consulted and as such, is not part of the coalition.

The report did not disclose when the alleged discussions for the formation of the Rainbow Coalition took place or the parties involved. It also did not state whether other zonal chairmen of the Labour Party were aware of these negotiations or if they had been consulted.

It is crucial to note that the Labour Party has been a significant player in Nigerian politics, particularly in Rivers State where it won the governorship election in 2019. However, since then, there have been reports of internal disputes and defections within the party, which could potentially impact its performance in future elections.

This development serves as a reminder to political parties and their leaders to uphold transparency and fairness when making decisions that affect the party’s structure and public image. It is essential for party members to be consulted and informed about such critical matters to maintain unity and trust within the party.
