As Nigeria celebrates its 66th Independence Day on October 1st, calls for unity and good governance continue to echo across different sectors of the nation. One such call came from a renowned economist, Prof. Yinka Izoukumor, who urged Nigerians to unite in order to overcome the challenges facing the country.
According to Vanguard News, Izoukumor made these remarks at a forum organized by the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) to mark this year’s Independence Day. He emphasized the need for Nigerians to come together and work towards building a better nation.
In the world of sports, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dikko, also emphasized the importance of good governance in achieving sporting success. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Africa Junior Athletics Championships in Asaba, Delta State, Dikko called on stakeholders to prioritize transparency and accountability.
Similarly, the Nigerian Sports Commission (NSC) has also urged sports federations to embrace good governance. In a statement by the NSC Director of Media, Mr. Ademola Olajire, the commission emphasized that good governance is crucial for the development of sports in Nigeria.
