On Wednesday, Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the man accused of creating and operating a purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja. According to Daily Post Nigeria, Adeyemi was charged with conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation by the police on behalf of the Federal Government [Daily Post Nigeria].
The charges came following an investigation into the existence of PFIPC, which the Federal Government claims does not exist. Adeyemi pleaded not guilty to all charges during his arraignment [Tribune Online].
According to Tribune Online, Adeyemi’s lawyer, Mr. Olusegun Jolaawo, argued that the charges were politically motivated and that there was no concrete evidence of forgery or impersonation against his client.
Judge Inyang Ekwo remanded Adeyemi in Kuje Prison, ordering that he be brought before the court on October 18th for further hearing [Daily Post Nigeria]. The judge also ordered the prosecution to provide Adeyemi’s lawyer with all evidence used to charge his client.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to crack down on fake agencies and individuals who claim to represent it in an official capacity. Nigerians are urged to verify the authenticity of any organization claiming to act on behalf of the government before engaging in any business with them.
