In an interview with THISDAYLIVE, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Rivers State, Dr. Gabriel Pidomson, has hinted that the 2027 governorship election in the state could be a significant one, as voters have vowed to resist any attempts at imposition of a governor. According to Pidomson, who was speaking in Port Harcourt, ‘the people of Rivers State are well aware of their democratic rights, and they will not tolerate being sidelined or ignored in the process of electing their next governor.’
Pidomson’s comments come amidst speculation about the political direction of the state following the upcoming 2023 general elections. With the incumbent Governor, Nyesom Wike, reaching his constitutional limit of two terms in office, there is growing uncertainty over who will succeed him.
The ADC candidate emphasized that the people of Rivers State are determined to have a say in choosing their next leader. ‘The people are ready to stand up for their rights, and they will not be intimidated or silenced,’ he declared. According to Pidomson, the voters’ resolve is rooted in their desire for good governance and accountability.
The 2027 governorship election in Rivers State has been a topic of much discussion in recent months, with various political actors making their intentions known. However, it remains to be seen how the electoral process will unfold, given the state’s history of contested elections and political tension.
