In a surprising pledge, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has vowed to forego overseas vacations and instead spend his holiday time within insecure regions such as Zamfara and Borno if he is elected President in the 2027 general elections. According to Punch Newspapers, Obi made this statement during his Independence Day address delivered in Abuja on Thursday, explaining that he would use his four-year tenure to travel across the country, interact with Nigerians, and understand the challenges they face firsthand.
This promise comes amidst ongoing security issues in parts of northern Nigeria, particularly in Zamfara and Borno states, which have been plagued by terrorism and banditry. Obi’s commitment to spending his holidays within these regions could be seen as a demonstration of solidarity with the people affected by these crises.
According to a report on news.google.com, Obi made similar promises during a town hall meeting in Kano earlier this year, stating that he would prioritize addressing Nigeria’s security challenges if elected president.
