In a significant stride towards promoting cleaner mobility, the Lagos State Government has received 20 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses. According to reports by Vanguard News, these buses were part of efforts aimed at expanding the state’s public transportation fleet. The delivery was made on an unspecified date in October 2026.
While the exact number of electric buses delivered remains undisclosed, it is evident that this initiative aligns with the federal government’s push for cheaper and cleaner transportation solutions.
PM News Nigeria reported that this delivery forms part of a broader national strategy aimed at reducing the cost of transport and promoting environmentally friendly options in public transportation.
It’s worth noting that Lagos, being one of Africa’s most populous cities, faces significant challenges with air pollution and traffic congestion. The introduction of CNG and electric buses is expected to mitigate these issues over time.
This move by the Lagos State Government reflects a growing trend towards sustainable transportation solutions across Nigeria. Earlier this year, Abuja also made strides in introducing electric buses into its public transport system.
