In a blunt statement that is likely to stir up old rivalries between the two politicians, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has challenged Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s 24-year political career in Rivers State.
According to multiple reports in Vanguard News and Tribune Online, Wike spoke during an interactive session with leaders and stakeholders of Evo Kingdom in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area. He dared them to point to any tangible development attracted to their land by Amaechi, despite his lengthy stint in top political offices as Speaker, Governor, and Minister.
The challenge is a clear dig at Amaechi, who served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007 before becoming governor from 2007 to 2015. After leaving office, he was appointed Minister of Transportation by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Wike’s statement is significant because it comes at a time when both politicians are preparing for the 2027 general elections. Amaechi is rumored to be eyeing the presidency, while Wike is expected to seek re-election as governor of Rivers State.
