G7 Countries Announce Plans to Release Oil and Diesel Reserves

In an effort to stabilize global energy markets, the G7 countries have announced plans to release up to 100 million barrels of oil and diesel from their strategic reserves. According to a report by Premium Times Nigeria, the Group said the release would include a ‘frontloaded substantial diesel release within the first 20 days by G7 members and partners’.

The move comes amid concerns over rising energy prices, which have been exacerbated by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The release is expected to help ease supply shortages and bring down prices. However, it remains unclear when the facilities will begin operating or how long the releases will last.

This decision by the G7 countries could have significant implications for Nigeria’s oil industry and economy. Nigeria is Africa’s largest oil producer and a key player in the global energy market. The country’s oil exports account for around 90% of its foreign exchange earnings and 80% of government revenue.

In a statement, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has not said when the facility began operating or how it will affect Nigeria’s oil exports.
