According to Premium Times Nigeria, Madonna University has confirmed the expulsion of nursing students who were filmed protesting over alleged poor conditions at the school’s health facility. The university released a statement stating that the students were expelled for breaching school rules and regulations during their demonstration. The students had gained national attention after a video showing them protesting outside the health facility went viral on social media. Premium Times Nigeria reports that the university has not said when the facility began operating or provided details about the alleged poor conditions that prompted the protest.
The expulsion of the nursing students has sparked outrage among some Nigerians, who have criticized the school’s response to the students’ complaints and called for an investigation into the allegations. The Nigerian Nursing and Midwifery Council (NNMC) has also said it will investigate the matter.
This is not the first time Madonna University has been in the news for controversy. In 2018, the school was accused of discrimination after it denied admission to a student with albinism, sparking protests and calls for the university to apologize.
