Electricity Discos’ Q2 Revenue Surges to N603bn Amidst FG’s Subsidy Debt Over N321bn

The 11 electricity Distribution Companies (Discos) operating across Nigeria reported a total revenue of N603.64 billion in the second quarter of 2026, according to THISDAYLIVE. This significant revenue generation comes amidst mounting concerns over the federal government’s subsidy debt, which stands at over N321 billion as of Q2 2026. The Discos’ impressive financial performance highlights improvements in electricity distribution across the nation, but the ongoing subsidy debt threatens to hinder further progress and economic growth.

According to THISDAYLIVE, this revenue surge by the Discos represents a 15% increase compared to the Q1 2026 figures. The federal government has yet to comment on when the electricity subsidy program will be phased out or how it plans to address the substantial subsidy debt accumulated thus far.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with power sector challenges, the increasing revenue of Discos offers a glimmer of hope for improved services and sustained economic growth. However, the government’s inability to manage the electricity subsidy debt could undermine these gains and jeopardize the country’s long-term energy plans.
