Amnesty Slams Attack on NDC Supporters at Enugu Airport

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate, Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa, was due to be welcomed by his supporters at the airport when the attack occurred. The source material does not provide a clear account of who was responsible for the attack, but Daily Post Nigeria reported that Amnesty International expressed concern over the incident on its verified Facebook account.

In a separate report by Daily Post Nigeria, the NDC’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, expressed anger over the attack. According to the report, Obi released a video in which he said that anarchy will consume everybody, and urged those responsible to desist from such acts. Obi also recounted how his scheduled engagements in different states were cancelled due to similar incidents.

Premium Times Nigeria reported that the supporters were at the airport to welcome Ohaa when the incident happened. According to the report, sporadic shootings were reported during the attack, but the source does not provide further details about the number of casualties or the identities of those responsible.

It is worth noting that while the UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned a deadly Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, there is no indication in the available source material that the UN has commented on the incident in Enugu, Nigeria.
