In a bid to strengthen support systems for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), the Lagos State Government has released a nationwide directory of GBV coordinators, according to multiple sources including Punch Newspapers and Premium Times Nigeria. The move follows a two-day National Convening of GBV State Coordinators hosted by Lagos State, aimed at enhancing collaboration among those working on GBV prevention and response. The directory contains contact details for GBV coordinators in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to a report by Punch Newspapers, the release of the directory is part of Lagos State’s commitment to ensuring that survivors of GBV have access to prompt and effective support. The publication notes that the directory will facilitate the reporting of GBV cases and expedite the provision of necessary assistance.
The initiative is expected to improve the response to GBV cases across Nigeria, making it easier for survivors to seek help. While the directory’s launch is a significant step towards addressing GBV in Nigeria, it is crucial to note that the full impact of this initiative will depend on its implementation and the level of coordination among the various GBV coordinators.
