Omotola Jalade: Begging has become a culture in Nigeria

Nigerian actress Omotola Jalade has expressed concern over the growing culture of begging in Nigeria, according to reports by The Sun Nigeria and Daily Post Nigeria. Speaking in an interview, Jalade noted that the frequency of begging in public spaces has increased significantly, indicating that it has become a part of Nigerian society.

‘It’s a culture now, and it’s sad,’ Jalade said. ‘Begging should not be a norm in our society, but unfortunately, it has become one.’

The actress, who has been a prominent figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry for over three decades, added that the situation is particularly concerning for children who are often seen begging on the streets. She called on the government, community leaders, and citizens to take action to address the issue.

According to The Sun Nigeria, Jalade’s remarks come amidst growing concerns about the state of Nigeria’s economy, which has been impacted by a range of factors including insecurity, inflation, and a weak naira.

Jalade’s comments highlight the urgent need for the Nigerian government and society as a whole to address the issue of begging and its root causes. The actress’s call to action serves as a reminder that everyone has a role to play in creating a more compassionate and equitable society for all Nigerians.
