In an interview with Tribune Online, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, a traditional ruler and former member of the National Assembly, voiced concerns about the calibre of individuals who have been governing Nigeria. Olaitan, who served as Special Adviser in the Second Republic to the late Governor Lateef Jakande in Lagos State, criticized the recruitment process, stating that the wrong people have been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the nation. He pointed out that the individuals who have been in power have often failed to prioritize the needs of the average Nigerian citizen. The interview comes as the country prepares for the 2027 elections, and Olaitan’s comments highlight the need for change and the importance of electing leaders who prioritize the welfare of the people. According to Tribune Online, Olaitan also discussed his role in the Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, and its plans for the upcoming elections.
