Lagos’ notorious traffic woes may soon see a significant improvement, as the much-anticipated Opebi-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge is reportedly 80% complete, according to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The bridge, which is a key component of the Greater Lagos Transport Master Plan, is expected to ease congestion along the Opebi-Mende-Ojota corridor, one of the busiest in the state. Speaking to Radio Nigeria Lagos, Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism that the bridge would be open before Christmas, providing much-needed relief to residents and commuters alike. The bridge’s construction, which began in 2020, has been a source of excitement for Lagosians, who have long suffered from inadequate infrastructure and the resulting traffic gridlock. While the exact date of the bridge’s opening remains uncertain, the governor’s statement is a welcome announcement for those tired of Lagos’ infamous traffic jams. According to Radio Nigeria Lagos, the bridge is being constructed by the Lagos State Government in collaboration with Julius Berger Nigeria PLC. The project is expected to cost N5.6 billion, with funding coming from the state’s budget.
