INEC Publishes Preliminary Voter Register Online: What You Need to Know

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general elections online, following public outcry. According to Premium Times, INEC had violated the electoral law by failing to publish the voter register on its website at the stipulated time. The move comes after concerns were raised by various stakeholders, as reported by Vanguard News. The final register of voters is expected to be published on December 15, as confirmed by INEC’s chairman (Sources: 1, 3). While this step aims to increase transparency, it is crucial for Nigerian voters to verify their registration details online and report any discrepancies to INEC. This move is particularly significant as it marks a digital shift in Nigeria’s electoral process, potentially setting a precedent for future elections.
