The Association of Banks in Nigeria (ACAMB) has issued a stern warning to bank customers, advising them to be vigilant against an increasing number of phishing scams targeting their sensitive financial information. According to Premium Times Nigeria, these scams often employ fake bank alerts, cloned websites, and impersonation accounts to trick unsuspecting victims into divulging their personal data.
In a statement released on Tuesday, ACAMB emphasized the importance of safeguarding sensitive information, urging customers to verify the authenticity of any communication purportedly from their bank. The association also recommended that customers install antivirus software on their devices and avoid clicking on links from unknown or suspicious sources.
The rise in phishing scams comes as more Nigerians conduct their banking activities online, a trend that has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. As the use of digital platforms becomes more widespread, cybercriminals have seized the opportunity to exploit vulnerable individuals and steal their hard-earned money.
‘The protection of our customers’ sensitive information is of utmost importance to us,’ said ACAMB’s spokesperson. ‘We urge all bank customers to remain vigilant and to follow our security guidelines to ensure their accounts remain secure.’
ACAMB’s advice comes as a welcome reminder to Nigerian bank customers to prioritize their online security and to be wary of potential scams.
