In a move to address a long-standing concern among Nigerian data users, MTN Nigeria has finally shed some light on the reasons behind the rapid depletion of data for many subscribers. In an exclusive interview with Punch Newspapers, MTN Nigeria’s spokesperson, Funso Aina, explained that the issue is not due to deliberate data deductions by operators but rather a result of several factors.
Aina pointed out that high-resolution video streaming, auto-downloads, and background apps are significant contributors to the fast depletion of data. He emphasized that these applications consume a substantial amount of data in the background, even when users are not actively engaged with them.
This revelation comes as a relief to many Nigerian data users who have long complained about the seemingly quick exhaustion of their data bundles. However, it also underscores the need for users to be more mindful of their data usage and to manage their applications carefully to maximize their data benefits.
MTN Nigeria is not the only operator facing this issue, and it is expected that other telecommunications companies will soon follow suit in addressing the concerns of their subscribers.
