Russia Denies Involvement in Waving of Russian Flags During 2024 Protests in Nigeria

Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, has denied any involvement in the waving of Russian flags during protests in Nigeria in 2024. According to reports from Premium Times Nigeria and Vanguard News, Lavrov stated that Russia and Nigeria share a strong relationship dating back to the Soviet Era, and that the Russian government was not behind the display of Russian flags during the protests. The denial comes amidst concerns that foreign powers may be meddling in Nigeria’s internal affairs. The protests, which took place in several cities across Nigeria, were largely in response to the government’s handling of various issues, including security and economic policies. It is unclear who was responsible for the waving of the Russian flags during the protests, and further investigation is ongoing. The denial by Russia’s Foreign Minister adds a new twist to the ongoing narrative surrounding the protests and foreign interference in Nigeria’s affairs.
