After a hearing on Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned until December 2 for judgment in a N1 billion fundamental rights suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), and the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
According to Tribune Online, El-Rufai’s lawsuit stems from an investigation by the ICPC into allegations of corruption during his tenure as governor. The former governor argues that the investigation violated his rights and is seeking N1 billion in damages.
The court had previously fixed October 26 for judgment, but the hearing was adjourned without a reason given. The new judgment date was announced on Tuesday, but the court has not disclosed why the decision was postponed.
El-Rufai served as Kaduna State governor from 2015 to 2023. The ongoing legal battle between him and the ICPC is a significant development in the ongoing fight against corruption in Nigeria.
