According to the Vanguard News, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Princewill Dike, has described the turnout at Tuesday’s Rainbow Coalition rally in Port Harcourt as evidence of the political influence and mobilisation capacity of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Speaking at the event, Dike noted that the large crowd in attendance was a clear indication of Wike’s popularity and political clout in the state.
Dike’s comments come as the 2027 general elections approach, with Wike widely seen as a key player in Rivers politics.
The Rainbow Coalition, a political group formed by a number of opposition parties in the state, held the rally to show their unity and strength ahead of the elections.
Wike, who has been a prominent figure in Rivers politics for several years, has been credited with delivering a number of key victories for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
His influence has been a topic of debate among political analysts, with some suggesting that his popularity could be a threat to the APC in the upcoming elections.
The APC has not yet responded to Dike’s comments.
The 2027 general elections are expected to be closely contested, with the PDP and APC expected to battle for control of the state.
