In a significant move to combat the proliferation of fake and banned products in the country, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed ₦8 billion worth of such items in North-Central Nigeria. According to reports from Vanguard News and Punch Newspapers, the products, which were mostly sachet alcoholic beverages, were confiscated from various manufacturing and distribution points across the region. This seizure and destruction operation is part of NAFDAC’s ongoing efforts to protect the health and safety of Nigerian consumers. The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasized the importance of these actions, stating, “We will continue to monitor and regulate the production, distribution, and sale of food, drugs, and cosmetics to ensure that only safe and authentic products reach our citizens.”. The destruction of these counterfeit products not only addresses the health risks associated with their consumption but also represents a significant loss for the criminal networks involved in their production and distribution. This operation serves as a reminder to these groups that NAFDAC remains vigilant in its mission to protect the public health of Nigerians. This story is of national importance as it highlights the ongoing efforts by NAFDAC to combat the sale of counterfeit and dangerous products in the country.
