Nigerians urged to learn from US midterm elections outcome
The African Democratic Congress has called on Nigerians to learn from the results of the US midterm elections, where the Democrats defeated Trump's party, to hold their own leaders accountable.

In the aftermath of the US midterm elections, where Democrats managed to defeat Donald Trump’s Republican Party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged Nigerians to learn from this political shift and apply it to their own country. According to a report by Punch Newspapers, the ADC believes that the outcome of the US elections demonstrates the power of the ballot box and the importance of holding leaders accountable.
‘The US midterm elections have shown the world the power of the ballot box and the determination of voters to hold their leaders accountable. Nigerians should learn from this and strive for similar change in our own elections,’ said Yabagi Sani, National Chairman of the ADC.
The ADC’s call comes amid growing concerns over the state of democracy in Nigeria, with many Nigerians voicing their dissatisfaction with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and calling for change ahead of the 2027 general elections. While the APC has not yet responded to the ADC’s statement, it is expected that the party will face increased pressure to address the concerns of Nigerian voters in the lead-up to the elections.
The US midterm elections saw a surge in voter turnout, with Democrats winning control of the House of Representatives and increasing their majority in the Senate. The results have been widely interpreted as a rebuke of President Trump’s policies and a call for change in the United States.
