Why Nigerians are Hesitant to Adopt CNG Vehicles: Otti Highlights Key Barriers

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has highlighted poor refuelling infrastructure, affordability concerns, and safety issues as key reasons for Nigerian motorists' reluctance to switch to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles.

In a recent statement, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, shed light on the reasons behind Nigerian motorists’ reluctance to adopt Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles. According to Daily Post Nigeria, Otti identified three major barriers: poor refuelling infrastructure, affordability concerns, and safety issues.

The governor emphasized that Nigeria’s transition from conventional fuel to cleaner energy would require more than just the availability of natural gas. He stressed the need for effective policies and infrastructure development to address these challenges and encourage more motorists to switch to CNG vehicles.

However, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has not commented on when the CNG facility began operating or provided details about its current status.

This reluctance to embrace CNG vehicles could have significant implications for Nigeria’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainable energy solutions.
