A Federal High Court in Warri has convicted 10 individuals for their role in illegal petroleum dealings in Delta State, marking a significant victory in the fight against oil theft.

In a move hailed as a significant victory in the battle against oil theft, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of 10 individuals over illegal petroleum dealings in Delta State. According to Premium Times Nigeria, the convictions were handed down by a Federal High Court in Warri. The 10 defendants, whose identities were not disclosed in the report, were found guilty of dealing in petroleum products without a license, an offense punishable under the Petroleum (Special Provisions) Act. Sentences varied, with some defendants facing up to three years in prison and fines as low as N300,000 (approximately $750 USD). The EFCC has been stepping up its efforts to combat oil theft, which has been a major challenge for Nigeria’s economy and environment. This latest conviction serves as a warning to those involved in such activities that they will be brought to justice.
