The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has set a target to meter all of its 1.2 million customers in a bid to eliminate estimated billing and improve service delivery, according to a report by Punch Newspapers. This move is expected to bring an end to the current practice of estimating power usage for customers who are yet to be metered.
The exact timeline for the implementation of this plan is yet to be disclosed by the AEDC. It is unclear whether the company has secured the necessary infrastructure and funds to achieve this ambitious goal. However, the initiative is seen as a step towards transparency and fairness in the distribution of electricity in Abuja.
The AEDC’s announcement follows a growing demand from consumers for accurate billing and improved power supply in the region. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has also been pushing for widespread metering to tackle the issue of estimated billing, which has long been a source of frustration for many Nigerian electricity customers.
