A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Nafiu Bala Gombe, who describes himself as national chairman, has warned former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar against parading himself as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. The faction also denied any deal to form an alliance, merger or coalition with the G100 Coalition.
According to multiple reports, the ADC faction said it was not part of the deal brokered by the G100 Coalition, a group of political heavyweights led by Atiku Abubakar. The G100 Coalition is said to be aiming to field a single candidate to challenge the ruling party in the 2027 elections.
The development comes as the 2027 election season gears up, with political parties and alliances jostling for position. The ADC, which fielded Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has been embroiled in internal disputes, with factions vying for control.
Sources close to the ADC have confirmed the existence of the faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe, but it is unclear how much support it enjoys within the party.
While the ADC faction’s stance may complicate Atiku Abubakar’s ambitions, it remains to be seen whether it will have a significant impact on the 2027 elections.
