A new e-ticketing system in Akwa Ibom State is generating ₦14 million weekly for the state government from tricycle and minibus drivers in Uyo, according to Punch Newspapers. The initiative, which started in October, aims to boost the state’s Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) and improve the transportation sector’s efficiency. It is not clear how many drivers are participating in the scheme or how the revenue is distributed among the state and local governments. This development comes amidst the Nigerian government’s drive to improve IGR across the country and reduce its dependency on federal allocations. The success of this e-ticketing system in Akwa Ibom could serve as a model for other states to emulate and potentially increase their IGR.
