Rotimi Amaechi, the Vice Presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has made a surprising allegation against President Bola Tinubu. In an interview, Amaechi claimed that Tinubu’s policies were responsible for his mother’s death. According to Premium Times Nigeria, Amaechi stated that before Tinubu came into power, his mother was healthy. However, after 2023, he found it difficult to afford the necessary drugs for her treatment. This sentiment was echoed in reports by THISDAYLIVE and Vanguard News as well. While these claims are yet to be independently verified, they have added a controversial dimension to the ongoing political race.
According to Premium Times, Amaechi said, “Tinubu’s policies killed my mother. Before Tinubu came, my mother was healthy. After 2023, it was difficult for me to buy drugs for my mother.” This assertion is particularly noteworthy given the close relationship between Amaechi and Tinubu, who were both prominent figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC) before Amaechi’s recent defection.
The allegation comes at a time when political tensions are running high in Nigeria. The upcoming elections promise to be closely contested, with multiple candidates vying for power. As such, accusations like these could potentially sway voters and impact the outcome of the elections.
