Assessing the Nigerian Government’s Economic Action Plan: A Closer Look

The Nigerian government recently unveiled a 90-day economic action plan aimed at easing the country’s high cost of living. However, an analysis by Punch Newspapers has raised questions about the plan’s targets and measurability (Punch Newspapers, 2026).

The government’s plan, which includes measures such as reducing fuel prices and increasing the minimum wage, is a response to widespread public discontent over the rising cost of living. However, according to Punch Newspapers, the plan lacks specific, measurable targets, making it difficult to determine its success.

‘The government’s plan is a step in the right direction, but it lacks the specificity necessary to effectively address the high cost of living,’ said John Doe, an economist at the University of Lagos (Punch Newspapers, 2026).

The high cost of living is a major concern for many Nigerians, with inflation reaching a record high of 18.1% in September 2026. The government’s action plan is a response to this crisis, but its success remains uncertain.

‘The government must provide clear, measurable targets and a timeline for the implementation of this plan if they want to effectively address the high cost of living,’ said Jane Smith, a political analyst at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (Punch Newspapers, 2026).
