Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared a ‘Rescue Mission’ for the 2027 presidential election, according to the News Agency of Nigeria. Speaking at a town hall meeting in Kaduna on Saturday, Abubakar said the mission was aimed at rescuing Nigeria from the economic and security challenges facing the country.
“The next election in 2027 is a rescue mission for Nigerians,” Abubakar said, adding that the country needed a leader who could address its problems head-on.
Abubakar, who contested in the 2019 presidential election, has not yet declared his intentions for the 2027 election. However, he has been vocal about the need for the country to address its economic and security challenges, particularly the growing insecurity in the northwest and northeast regions.
The former vice president has been a key figure in Nigerian politics for several decades, having served as vice president under President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007. He has also been a prominent businessman and philanthropist.
Abubakar’s declaration comes as the country prepares for the 2023 general elections, which are scheduled to take place in February and March.
