Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has revealed that a bill on the creation of state police is nearing completion and will soon be submitted to the National Assembly. According to a report by Ripples Nigeria, Gbajabiamila made this disclosure during a town hall meeting in Akure, Ondo State. The bill, which has been in the works for some time, is expected to address the long-standing demand for state police by various Nigerian communities and stakeholders. Gbajabiamila did not provide a specific timeline for when the bill would be submitted to the National Assembly, but emphasized the need for a more robust security system in the country. The bill is one of several legislative initiatives aimed at addressing the country’s security challenges, including the ongoing insurgency in the northeast and the increasing incidents of banditry and kidnapping across the nation.
