The Nigerian government is urging investments in youth, small businesses, and technology to transition the country from a trading nation to a value-chain creator, as stated by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Niyi Adebayo. According to Punch Newspapers, Adebayo made this call during a workshop organized by the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) in Abuja. The minister emphasized the need for a shift in focus towards local industries and the empowerment of the nation’s youth, who he believes are crucial to driving economic growth. Adebayo also highlighted the potential of technology in fostering innovation and job creation. This push for investment comes as part of the government’s efforts to diversify the Nigerian economy, which has historically been heavily reliant on oil exports. The move is expected to create opportunities for local entrepreneurs, stimulate economic growth, and provide employment for the country’s rapidly growing youth population. However, it remains uncertain how the government plans to attract and manage these investments, particularly in light of ongoing economic challenges and concerns about corruption and inefficient bureaucracy.
