A video shared online on Wednesday has sparked reactions following a disagreement between a Nigerian man and police officers over a NAFDAC registration number for zobo drinks he was selling. The footage, which appears to have been recorded in a busy market, shows the officers questioning a woman about the bottled zobo drinks she was selling. According to Punch Newspapers, the officers asked her to produce the products’ NAFDAC number, leading to a heated exchange between the woman and the police. The cause of the disagreement remains unclear, but the incident highlights the ongoing issues surrounding the enforcement of food safety regulations in Nigeria. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is responsible for regulating and ensuring the safety of food, drugs, cosmetics, and other goods in the country. However, the agency has faced criticism for its lack of enforcement and corruption. In a similar incident last year, NAFDAC officials were accused of demanding bribes from traders in Lagos. The Nigerian police have not commented on the video, and it remains unclear whether any action has been taken against the officers involved.
