In a recent interview with LEADERSHIP Newspapers, Mr. Adaralegbe, a renowned business leader, emphasized the crucial role corporate governance plays in facilitating structured financing for the energy sector in Nigeria. According to Adaralegbe, the current state of corporate governance in the sector hampers investors’ confidence, thereby limiting the availability of long-term funding.
‘Good corporate governance is the cornerstone of attracting structured financing to Nigeria’s energy sector,’ Adaralegbe asserted. He pointed out that investors are often deterred by unclear policies, inconsistent regulations, and corruption, which undermine their trust in the sector.
‘Improving corporate governance would instil confidence in investors, making them more willing to commit to long-term projects,’ Adaralegbe explained. He highlighted the need for greater transparency, accountability, and professionalism in the management of energy companies as key components of effective corporate governance.
Adaralegbe’s call for improved corporate governance in the energy sector aligns with broader efforts to enhance Nigeria’s business environment and attract foreign investment. With the country’s energy sector being a critical driver of economic growth, addressing the challenges in corporate governance could unlock substantial investment and contribute to the sector’s development.
