Court Adjourns El-Rufai’s N1bn Rights Suit Against ICPC, AGF, IGP for Judgment

In a significant development, the Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the judgment in a N1 billion fundamental rights suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), and the Inspector General of Police (IGP). According to Vanguard News, the court has fixed December 2 for the delivery of the judgment. The suit, which was initiated by El-Rufai in 2021, seeks to challenge the alleged unlawful invasion of his Kaduna residence by the ICPC in 2019. The commission had accused El-Rufai of receiving a questionable N1.1 billion from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). However, the former governor has maintained his innocence and argued that the search was a violation of his fundamental human rights. This adjournment comes as a crucial step in this long-standing legal battle between El-Rufai and the anti-graft agency. The outcome of the judgment could have significant implications for El-Rufai and the anti-corruption fight in Nigeria.
