Court Orders INEC to Recognize Olawepo-Hashim as Accord Party’s Presidential Candidate

In a landmark ruling on Tuesday, October 5th, 2026, a Nigerian court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Mr Olawepo-Hashim as the Accord Party’s presidential candidate for the forthcoming 2027 elections. According to Premium Times Nigeria, the court gave this directive following a suit filed by Mr Hashim challenging his exclusion from the party’s primaries. The court ordered INEC to immediately recognize Mr Olawepo-Hashim as the Accord Party’s sole presidential candidate and forward his name to INEC for onward uploading onto its portal, as required. This development is significant given that it sets a precedent for future electoral processes in Nigeria, demonstrating the judiciary’s role in ensuring fairness and transparency. The Accord Party has not yet commented on the ruling, while INEC has not said when the facility began operating to accept candidate nominations for the 2027 elections.
