Customs Discovers Multi-Billion Naira Drug Haul in Imported Vehicles and Spare Parts

In a significant development, the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has uncovered a drug haul valued at ₦3.67 billion hidden in used vehicles and automobile spare parts at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos. According to a report by Vanguard News, the illegal importation of narcotics concealed within vehicles and spare parts has raised concerns following the interception. This is not the first time such a discovery has been made; however, the scale of this latest seizure underscores the persisting issue of drug trafficking through the country’s ports. The NCS has not disclosed when the facility began operating or how long the containers had been in transit. The discovery is expected to fuel the ongoing debate about the need for enhanced security measures at Nigeria’s ports to curb illegal activities. PRNigeria News also reported on the seizure, confirming the value of the drugs and the location of the port.
