The Nigeria Customs Service has reportedly seized over 38,000 litres of petrol (PMS) in Adamawa State, according to Punch Newspapers and other sources. The operation, codenamed ‘Whirlwind’, is aimed at curbing illegal smuggling of petroleum products. According to Punch, the seized fuel is worth approximately N63 million. However, the exact location of the seizure and the date of the operation have not been specified in the reports. The Customs has not yet issued an official statement on the matter. This comes amidst increasing concerns over the smuggling of PMS to neighbouring countries, as cheaper fuel prices in some regions entice smugglers. The Nigerian government has been implementing measures to tackle this issue, such as increasing surveillance and collaborating with security agencies to apprehend those involved in such activities.
