A wave of violence has once again swept through Plateau State, Nigeria, as reports indicate that a Baptist pastor and eight other individuals were killed in separate attacks by gunmen. According to multiple sources, the attacks occurred in Barkin Ladi and Riyom communities early on Sunday morning, sparking fear and tension among residents.
The Vanguard News reported that the deaths were part of a series of attacks that have been ongoing since Saturday night. The publication also stated that women and children have been evacuated due to the escalating violence.
Punch Newspapers confirmed the attack, reporting that the pastor was among those killed. The NNPC has not said when the facility began operating.
These attacks come at a time when tensions are already high in Plateau State due to ongoing clashes between farmers and herders. The state governor, Simon Lalong, has called for calm and urged security agencies to restore peace and order. The Nigerian military has also stepped up its presence in the affected areas.
These attacks serve as a grim reminder of the persistent violence that continues to plague Plateau State and other parts of Nigeria. The loss of life and property, as well as the widespread fear and insecurity, are concerns that demand urgent attention from both the state and federal government.
